New Member of The family

Saw this cute little Siberian Husky at my fren's newly open pet shop near the Ong Tiang Sui Primary School. We did not expect to buy a new puppy now but we did plan to get a new one sometime in the future. This guy here change out mind & i said to myself "The time is here." I actually like his colours and its distinctive markings especially his face. Another thing that is special bout this guy here is that his left eyes is brown and the other is blue (heterochromia). Decided to name this 3 months old baby Siberian husky Oscar.

2009 ITF Women's Circuit

This is the first professional tennis tournament ever held in Kuching, Sarawak. The venue of this tournament is at the Sarawak Loan Tennis Association (SLTA) from 4th - 8th Nov 2009. Players from Indonesia, France, Korea, Japan, Belgium and Malaysia. There are suppose to be players from other country but they withdraw from this tournament. The winner of this tournament will bring back USD$10,000.

This event will be my first sports shoot with the Nikon D300s DSLR. Now is a good time to put the 7fps DX format to the test. Pictures below are from Day 1 of the tournament and the pictures are of minimal editing. I just add vignette effect to all my pictures.

Gear: Nikon D300s + 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 VRI

Camera Setting: ISO 200, VR On, Picture Control: Vivid, Color Space: sRGB, WB: Auto

DAY 1

When I arrived at the venue, there were 3 matches going on. The picture below is the match between Ju-Hee You (KOR) VS Shivika Burman #8 (IND) . Take a look at the pictures below. The one in yello is Ju-Hee You of Korea and the Pink is Shivika Burman of India.

At the same time, the match between our very own Malaysian 11th seeded Jawairiah Noordin and Indonesia's Mahajaroenkul Satjaporn.

Below are some of the pictures of the match between Jawairiah Noordin (M'SIA) & Mahajaroenkul Satjaporn (THAI).

Noordin end their match with the score of 6-1, 6-3.

Soon after that, the rain stop all the ongoing matches. I had to go after that because i still got classes to attend and i can't afford to miss them cuz my final is just around the corner.

Almost halfway through their match the Korean pair Jun-Hee You & Jung-Eun Kim was up against Indonesia's Beatrice Gumulya & Jessy Rompies. Nikon D300s

135mm, ISO 3200, f5.6, 1/10s

It has been quite a while since my last post. I recently got a new Nikon D300s DSLR body after sold my D80 to some guy in Seremban. I decided to get this body again from Shashinki.com after making surveys and research online. Overall i'm impressed with the picture quality and most of all is the noise control as compared to my previous Nikon D80 as it was a big step-up to a CMOS sensor & an EXPEED Imaging Processor. The 7 fps - 8fps is an advantage for sports coverage and I'm hoping to get better shots of tennis actions with it. Still new to the whole system but i don't think it will take me a long time to master it as Nikon has always been famous for having a more user friendly easy to use system, handling & ergonomics. Below are some unedited(only resized) pictures taken with the Nikon D300s + Nikkor 18-200mm f3.5-5.6G VRI + SB900. The lens caused some visible vignette on some of the pictures.

*Setting used: Standard Picture Control, D-Lighting: Off, Long exp. NR: Off, High ISO NR: Off, WB: Auto, Color Spae: sRGB

My Nikon D80's new friends =)

Finally made up my mind on how to spend the money I've work for the past two months. =) Bought a Nikon SB-900 SpeedLight, a MahaPowerex MH-C801D, 8 Sanyo Eneloop Batteries & a Lambency Flash Diffusfer. Bought all these online from Shashinki.com.

Placed my orders & paid them monday morning & got them the next day. Shopping from them is very good cuz their services are superb (products & delivery time). =) Let me go on with a bit of intro.

The things are very well packed so that its protected from opening or damaged. (Good for buyers)

Here are the stuff i bought. All four items, the speedlight, battery charger, batteries & diffuser are in good shape. Choose the Sanyo Eneloop batteries cuz what i know its the best rechargeable batteries for photographers plus its cheap at RM30+ for a pack of two. Rumors is saying that Panasonic is buying over Sanyo because of its Eneloop's technology.

First of all let me go on to the Nikon SB-900 SpeedLight. Its Nikon's Flagship SpeedLight for its performance. Improvement from its previous SB-800 the SB-900 has better power, faster recycle time, better GUI & flexibility. The package comes with Flashgun itself (made in JAPAN), the speedlight stand, the diffusion dome, Color filter holder & the 4 types of filters, the softcase to put all the items mentioned, manual, a collection of example photos & an international warranty. Bought it for RM1,695.00. For me i think it was a good deal cuz i see most of the shops in kuching selling at RM1,888.00 the difference of almost RM200.00. =)

Put on my D80 and damn it was super big & it made me clear of what is my next upgrade. A bigger body for example the Nikon D300 or the upcoming D400. =)

Below are some pics taken with the flash on my D80 with a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 shooting with the flash at TTL (Through The Lens). Got my Gundam Strike-Freedom as my subject with a light blue background. Very good control over the shadows and the evenly distributed light.

I saw reviews about the overheating problem of the SB-900 after 60 shots on full power but i haven reach there yet. Some say its because of the batteries that has high mAh, and some say its because of the thermal cut being set too low by NIKON. Rumors are saying that the new firmware will solve this problem but at the mean time we can simply just turn that function off but have to be careful not to abuse it too much. =)

Now for the Lambency Flash Diffuser that comes with four color domes. (as u can see from the pic) Not sure how to use the color dome. All i know is bounce. =) This diffuser cost me only RM75.00 & its cheap. Below are some pics taken with the color dome on.

Diffuser on without color Dome.

White Dome. (Not much of a difference. Maybe in different situations do.)

Yellow Dome.

Blue Dome.

Orange Dome.

Finally the the Maha Powerex 8 battery charger. Its a high performance AA/AAA battery charger that has 8 individual charging circuits that can discharge & then charge individually. (This is good as it will not harm the batter's lifespan) Not only that its normal charging time is 1 Hour only & its soft charging is 2 Hours regardless of number of batteries. (This is very fast for a battery charger of eight) This here cost me RM269.00. To some people its very expensive & not a must to have cuz a normal charger will do but to me its the performance that matters. Haven tried it yet cuz my Eneloops are still full. Will do a review again on the Maha Powerex Battery charger again when i use it. =)

Cousin's Wedding

It's really been awhile since i din not touch my DSLR & this blog cuz of my final exam & work. Fill up my free time with work everyday to make full use of it & at the same time saving up for my DSLR equipment upgrades. =p

The last time i took picture was during my cousin's wedding & it was my first time doing so. Borrowed a Nikkor 18-200mm VR & a SB-600 speedlight from my friend for this event. Only took some pics with my tamron 17-50mm f2.8 & the rest of it using my fren's lens.

Here are some of the edited pictures. =)
