My 1st Photography Workshop (SPAS) @ Matang Family Park

Join this photography workshop organized by Mr.Geoffrey Lam of Sarawak Photo-Art Society (SPAS) on the 16-Nov-2008. Rm5.00 for Student and even if I'm not the most it will cost me Rm10 excluding buying food & drink from the canteen. Actually the event is only cost Rm2.00 because the entrance fee is Rm3.00. Worth it!! =)

We gathered at the main entrance at around 8.30AM & we started with an opening speech by the SPAS president Mr. Harry Tan (A famous photographer known by many famous photographers like Alvin Leong). Showed us a few nice examples of nature pictures that were taken. I was kind of the new guy there so was ask to give a point of view and my goals of the workshop. We settle down for awhile because of the tiny rain.

Seconds after that, someone found our 1st model of the day. The long tailed Chameleon. He then became a popular star.

This is out 1st model. He is very good as he will change pose after while for all of us to take. For once i think he felt glamorous back there. =)

A very good pose before we say goodbye to him. =)

This is the amount of lens the Green Model had to face for the day.

Tripod is a very important equipment in photography. These three legged tower is not cheap. I heard they at least cost Rm800.00. Its is very important to get a good tripod for durability & also great pictures.

After that we all move down here to take pictures of the stream & try to make a cotton wool effect or dreamy effect from it.

My try for the effect. I got the hang of it but there was not enough flow so it was not very nice. =)

There was not much flow.

Saw this cat there before going into the jungle. Manage to take a shot of the cat and also a mosquito on the top of its left ear. =)

Looks like someone loves drawing here. This and the next 4 pictures are taken in a small garden before entering the jungle.

These are the same species but the colours are different.

This is a common plant but i don't know the name.

This also is common. When i was young i used to pluck the flowers and pull the middle tip to get the sweet drop of water. =)

This person is the Master of Kung Fu. Found her training before entering the jungle.

Here we are, the jungle. The track in the jungle is natural and they said Japanese loves is very much & not forgetting those Mat Salleh too. =)

Fungus of different species, patterns and colours can be found here.

Parasite Plant on a tree.

I think this is the vampire of the jungle. Found him moving from one leaf to the other.

Got the sunlight to make a nice black border on two corners.

Don't know what is this but it looks like a jungle fruit.

Hey we saw you. This guy was spotted by us even if he stay close to the leave.

Like this picture but if i had the background darker then it will be even better.

The background is also not dark enough. Wanted another try by moving a bit more to the right but it had something to do and it went off. It was actually trying to talk to the ants there. If only i had a Micro Lens.

Skeleton of a leave.

This is a 'Pakis', a popular plant that photographers would take. Took me a few shot before getting the sharp picture because of not using tripod. =)

Nice leave with antenna.

Black Caterpillar.

The human faced spider. Look at the head that is golden in colour that looks like a human face.

Down the stream the president of SPAS Mr. Harry Tan is trying to shoot the cotton wool effect of flowing stream.

Water Glider trying to glide up stream.

Reflection of the leaves on the water.

After that we crossed a bridge to get to the Garden.

Saw this tiny guy here with red horns on the leaves of a plant in the garden.

This tiny purple flowers in the garden is a common flower we see on the roadside.

Mr. Grasshopper.

It was lunch time i guess by that time. Shot this grasshopper eating.

This spidey has got the catch of the day. Caught itself something as big as its body. =)

I think this is a Cricket.

On our way back to the shelter, we saw something interesting. The Human Faced Spider was having his big big meal. There was a bee & another insect on its web. Enjoy Spidey. =)

Matang Family Park is actually a nice place for people who loves nature. It is cheap and you can BBQ, swim in the river, jungle walk or take photos. =) Bring your friends and family along because you will only have fun going in a group. Remember that sometimes it is slippery and make sure to put on shoes & not slippers because along the way in the jungle i saw lots of ants with the 10x bigger than our house ants. So be careful when your there.

As for photographers, the most important thing to remember is a photographer's ethics; take pictures at ur own limit and do not damage or end up killing the subject just for that picture.

Plan your next holiday trip to Matang Family Park. Some of us out there don't even know what the nature really feels like. Always remember safety first. Enjoy =)
